Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has emphasized that the reopening of the Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will reinforce the government's efforts to diversify the state's economy through agriculture. The reopening will also facilitate the development of a skilled workforce to drive the agricultural-focused economy envisioned by the government.

During a pre-college opening and agribusiness stakeholders engagement event at the newly reconstructed Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Iguoriakhi, Ovia South West Local Government Area, Governor Obaseki stated that the institution has undergone upgrades to ensure its competitiveness among top agricultural training institutions globally.

Governor Obaseki indicated that the college, with campuses in Iguoriakhi, Agenebode, and Uromi, is poised to equip the state's youth population with knowledge and skills to support the government's agenda for increased food production and economic growth. He highlighted agriculture's importance, stating that it is the backbone of Nigeria's economy.

He also urged politicians to prioritize community development over political conflicts and encouraged investment in the state's agricultural sector. The governor expressed the desire for investors to participate in the college's governance and emphasized the institution's focus on practical training rather than just certification.

Governor Obaseki outlined plans for further development, including the construction of additional campuses, and noted that the College will contribute to food security, poverty reduction, and economic advancement in the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Steven Idehenre, commended the governor for the college's revitalization, emphasizing its potential to enhance agricultural training and development. The college, structured into three schools, will offer a range of agricultural programs, including a unique vocational enterprise program.

Professor Oluwafemi Balogun, the consultant on the college's revamp, emphasized the college's world-class status and its potential to attract more investors, contributing to agricultural development. The college's administrative work is set to commence in August 2023, with the academic session for 2023/2024 starting in September 2023.
