The HortiNigeria Program has introduced a new approach to vegetable production, leading to an achievable increase in tomato production. During the program's first annual learning workshop in Kano State, Program Director Mohammed Salasi Idris disclosed that the Dutch-funded initiative, in collaboration with consortium partners, has been working to improve vegetable production in selected Nigerian states. The four-year program aims to create a sustainable, inclusive horticulture sector that enhances food security and nutrition in the country, with a focus on tomato, okra, onion, pepper, cabbage, cucumber, sweetcorn, and watermelon value chains. Beneficiaries like Malama Ramlat Umar have witnessed significant improvements in tomato production due to training on post-harvest loss reduction and market access.
