Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang announced this during the official launch of the distribution of subsidized fertilizers and other essential farming inputs for the 2025 season in Jos. He explained that this technological approach represents a significant move toward greater efficiency, guaranteeing that only genuine farmers benefit from the fertilizers and inputs, thus preventing exploitation by middlemen.

He reiterated the administration’s dedication to agriculture as the cornerstone of the state's economy, emphasizing that, in addition to securing food supplies, agriculture is a key driver of economic growth and poverty reduction.

“For us, agriculture is the most important economic driver. It is a divine blessing that the people of Plateau have the potential to achieve food sovereignty and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development,” the Governor stated.

Reflecting on past challenges, he disclosed that in 2023, the state procured 200 trucks of fertilizer at subsidised rates, but the process was undermined by middlemen who took advantage of the system.

“This year, we have learnt from those mistakes. We have re-strategised and fully embraced technology to improve efficiency in order to ensure that fertiliser reaches only those who need it most, the real farmers,” he assured.

Governor Mutfwang expressed optimism that the deployment of technology in agricultural interventions would not only enhance productivity but also create a sustainable framework for the sector’s long-term growth.

The event concluded with the symbolic distribution of subsidized fertilizers and other farming inputs to registered farmers, highlighting the state's renewed emphasis on agricultural empowerment.
