Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has initiated the distribution of 312 tractors and 100 trucks of fertilizer for sale to farmers across all 27 local government areas of the state. The distribution was officially launched by Governor Zulum in Maiduguri on Tuesday. The fertilizers will be offered to farmers at a discounted rate of 25%, while those eligible for tractor loans will be required to pay 50% of the market price. Each of the 312 political wards in the state will receive one tractor and 100 bags of fertilizer, aiming to promote mechanized farming and increase crop yields. Additionally, every local government council will receive five tractors to facilitate farming at no cost to farmers, who will only need to cover the expenses for diesel fuel. Governor Zulum emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance the agricultural sector's growth, particularly as the improved security situation allows for the utilization of more farmland. He also highlighted the importance of monitoring the sales and distribution process to ensure that the farm implements reach the intended beneficiaries, urging farmers to use them solely for their intended purpose.
