It seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in classrooms and its real-world application.
Svensson stated, "The 'Grow What You Eat Initiative' is not merely a program; it is a testament to our commitment to nurturing a generation that comprehends and values the art of farming, the importance of the soil, and the essence of sustainable living. Through this initiative, we embark on a transformative journey to ignite the passion for agriculture among our secondary school students, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and unwavering confidence in their ability to shape a sustainable future."
She added that participants in the program will gain the necessary skills and knowledge for sustainable farming practices. Moreover, it offers them an opportunity for self-discovery, instills a sense of responsibility, and fosters profound respect for the environment.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, highlighted the significant contribution of initiatives like this to Nigeria's economy, ensuring food security, creating employment, and providing raw materials.
